The 38th Waud Classic (2020)

After the Covid affected shambles of the 2020 golfing season we were delighted to be given an August slot at Royal Ashdown to play the 38th annual Waud Classic.

We had a strong turn out of 26 players including new boys, Toby Brymer, Vinnie Kilner, Andrew Evans and Chris Moloney. It was good also to see the return of Richard Pickford to our ranks after a few years away.

On a very hot summers day we were both scorched and treated to al fresco dining and prize giving, with the younger contingent following the form of recent years in populating the top end of the prize table! – Our new winner with a fantastic 39 points playing off a handicap of 3 is George Atkins, closely followed by Myles Waud with 35, Gareth Thomas in 3rd place losing out on count back also on 35 but beating his brother Chris by a point.

The ‘brown garter’ end of the table was headed by the bookies favourite Paul Shinerock on 14 points.

The afternoon 9 hole foursomes event was won by Myles and Max Waud with 20 points, one ahead of the second place duo of Jamie Wright and Gareth Thomas. In third place on 18 was Vinnie Kilner and Sam Long.

The veterans cup went to Steve Waud and Woobsies Winner to Shane Moloney.

The evening Covid restricted festivities were long an entertaining at The Harrow Pub in Caterham on The Hill, again al fresco!
